CHAPEL RECAP: OCTOBER 19 & 20, 2023
To end an incredible 2023 season, we decided to go out with a bang: 2 full days, 18 happy couples, and 15 dedicated vendors!
BMO Atrium at Evergreen Brick Works hosted the nuptials on a beautiful fall day, surrounded by nature and love. We love to work at Brick Works for so many reasons - the indoor spaces are each their own and unlike any other in the city, while the outdoor spaces provide the perfect setting for couples portraits, providing a natural backdrops, mixed with industrial architecture and the venue’s signature graffiti.
For this Chapel, we had the special opportunity to work with Effie at Lzy Sunday, and we received a lively and exciting custom mural. Effie’s pieces are warm and bright, always inviting, and enticing to the viewer. She has created murals for The June Motel, Pilot Coffee Roasters and Dillon’s Distillers, as well as illustrations and designs for Google Canada, and HGTV Canada. Knowing the mural would be the ceremony centrepiece, we needed it to capture attention without distracting or overwhelming the couples in front of it. We’d been looking forward to the final piece for months and it did not disappoint in the slightest. It provided a beautiful and unique jumping off point for the chapel to come alive.
Designed around the gorgeous mural, our Chapel design brought together a vibrant colour palette, as well as complementary decor elements. We used DIY painted cinder blocks filled with flowers to create a contrast between harsh and pretty elements - similar to the industrial venue, immersed in natural surroundings. The lounge brought together pillowy white furniture from Event Rental Group and our neon Chapel sign, with more cinder blocks and a home made coffee table.
Snowberry Botanicals brought the most incredible combination of dried and fresh florals. From the bud vases, to the lounge to the ceremony installations, the floral design brought every element together seamlessly. But there’s more! They provided 18 pairs of tailor-made personal florals, and the couples adored them all.
Kim Adeney and Juliana Klein guided our couples through their nuptials, helping each of them stay in the present moment and enjoy the momentous occasion. In the background we had Toronto Jazz Collective playing all the best romantic tunes. Supporting our soloist, EpiQ Vision providing the A/V technician to make sure all went smoothly - And it did!
After the beautiful ceremony, couples came back up the aisle to celebrate with a toast for everyone, supplied by Fresh Wines, Shiny Apple Cider, Steam Whistle, and Gruvi. Guests were also able to enjoy the best cookies in the city from Courage Cookies and our favourite snack brand Purplesful Popcorn. A few couples added a delicious cutting cake to their elopement from Olivia Yang Cake Studio. As usual, Olivia blew us away with her creative confections, providing a beautiful and tasty addition to the party.
With this many couples, we needed a full camera squad. Taking care of all our footage needs we had Alicia Thurston Photography, Rita Kravchuk Photography, Frances Rose West, The Organic Moment and Willow + Birch on photography. Additionally, Sean Sutherland and Varey Sound joined the party to create some phenomenal wedding videos for a few of our lucky couples.
An added benefit to working with our friends at Evergreen Brick Works is the chance to contribute to the Evergreen Children’s Garden. We love the work they do to engage people of all ages and abilities to develop a lasting relationship with nature, and urban naturalist skills.
We’ll be back at Evergreen Brick Works in 2024 and still have some chapel spots available.
